Education - Leadership Coach - Federal Grant

Atlanta, GA
Full Time
SI
Experienced
SREB is looking for a Leadership Coach who has led an elementary school and has a strong background in literacy and reading — someone who can serve as project lead on a multi-year federal research grant, keeping the team's work, timelines, spending and reporting on track. This role also carries a second, equally important function — someone who can sit with a principal to plan the next steps, walk classrooms and give teachers useful feedback, and turn student data into a clear course of action. If you want to put your school leadership and literacy expertise to work across schools and districts, and you like the discipline of seeing a federally funded project through from start to finish, this one is built for you.

About SREB
The Southern Regional Education Board is a nonpartisan, interstate compact that helps its member states improve education from early childhood through doctoral education and into the workforce. SREB does this through reliable data, practical support for implementation, and cross-state collaboration — producing research, state comparisons, data services, and publications that policymakers and practitioners use every day.

About the Role
This is a grant-funded coaching and project leadership role within SREB's School Improvement work, reporting to the Division Director – Development and Innovation. Part of your time will go to coordinating the day-to-day work of a multi-year federal grant — assigning and tracking the team's work against the approved scope, timeline and logic model, delivering services as part of the team, and preparing draft materials for required progress and financial reports. The rest of your time will go to direct support for schools and districts: coaching school and district leaders, designing and delivering professional development, observing instruction, and helping teachers and leaders use evidence to adjust their practice. The work involves extensive travel to partner schools and districts in Georgia.

This is a grant-funded position. Funding for the role runs through July 2031, and the position is expected to end at that time. It is an individual-contributor position with no supervisory responsibility, though as project lead you will coordinate the work assignments and timelines of the grant team.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as project lead for a multi-year federal research grant, coordinating the team's work assignments and timelines and tracking progress and deliverables against the approved scope, timeline and logic model.
  • Track grant spending and documentation against federal requirements, including 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance), allowable costs, procurement, and record retention.
  • Gather data and prepare draft materials for required federal progress and financial reporting.
  • Coach school and district leaders for continuous school improvement.
  • Design, plan, facilitate, and evaluate professional development for principals, teachers, and other district staff.
  • Observe classroom instruction and give teachers feedback, and keep school and district leaders informed of teacher progress toward instructional shifts.
  • Collect evidence of instructional strategies and use it to help teachers, coaches, and administrators adjust instruction.
  • Analyze district and site teacher-effectiveness data to shape strategic recommendations and district professional development.
  • Help schools and districts create and sustain professional learning communities.
  • Identify and initiate contact with potential future sites, and assist with developing proposals for contracts.
  • Contribute as an active member of the team, offering suggestions that improve the unit's service, and represent SREB with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation with staff and the public.
What You Bring
Required:
  • Master's degree in Education, Instructional Leadership, or a related field, plus four years of classroom experience and at least one year as an elementary school Principal or Assistant Principal.
  • Current or previously held teaching certification and state administrator certification.
  • Knowledge of current trends in education and instructional design, and the principles of effective instruction, lesson planning, and lesson design.
  • Data literacy: collecting, analyzing, and reporting on student and program data, and drawing on multiple sources of data to make decisions about improving instruction.
  • Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, tracking milestones, and managing multiple workstreams over a multi-year timeline to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to present to boards, funders, school leaders, and community partners.
  • Sound, independent judgment within established procedural guidelines, accurate record-keeping, and the ability to build effective working relationships and contribute to team goals.
  • Residency in Georgia or within reasonable driving distance from a neighboring state is required.  Preference given to candidates in Georgia.  Relocation assistance is not available.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively.
Helpful, but not required:
  • Strongly preferred expertise in literacy best practices and research (e.g., science of reading, adolescent literacy)
  • Experience administering federal grants or programs.
  • Working knowledge of federal compliance requirements, including 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance), allowable costs, procurement, and documentation standards.
  • Experience overseeing the implementation of a schoolwide high-dosage tutoring program.
What We Offer
  • Salary for this position is $93,150. This is a grant-funded position that ends in July 2031.
  • Continuous improvement mindset. Every day is an opportunity to grow. Employees are set up to succeed in a workplace that supports continuous learning and development as part of a lifelong journey of achievement.
  • Mission and social impact that reaches across the nation. SREB focuses on helping states improve education from early childhood through postsecondary and the workforce. Together, we're shaping stronger futures for students and economies across the South, and the nation.
  • Medical, dental and vision.
  • Life and short-term disability insurance.
  • Flexible spending and health savings account options (FSA/HSA).
  • Health reimbursement account (HRA).
  • Additional voluntary insurance options (additional life, long-term disability, accident, critical illness)
  • Very generous leave programs.
  • Outstanding 403(b) retirement plan.
Why This Role
  • Work directly with school and district leaders to improve student outcomes — especially in literacy.
  • Lead the day-to-day work of a multi-year federal grant, building real expertise in grant management, compliance, and reporting.
  • A defined project with a clear scope, timeline, and logic model, and a Division Director who sets clear direction and priorities.
  • A stable, respected, mission-driven organization with a long track record in Southern education.
